Some of the most popular applications for having a forum within your web site is for people to be able to post questions, usually of a technical nature to your web site. Then other visitors, or your own technical staff would respond with suggestions to their questions. Think of these new web based forums as the updated bulletin boards where people are able to post and reply to other peoples posts.

The forums can be moderated, meaning that you are able to monitor and approve or deny postings based on the content. The forums can allow people to subscribe to a particular thread or discussion and have the posts emailed to them. This is handy when they are very interested in a particular thread.

The forums can also be secured, meaning that only people with a certain level of access, of which you would assign, would be able to view, or post to the forums.
